The Graphic Designer, reporting to the Associate Director of Content, will be an integral part throughout the creative process – from concept development to final visual execution – to translate Marketing strategy into clear, effective, and on-brand communications efforts that are relevant and compelling across multiple channels, including digital, print, and social media. Specifically, they will be responsible for following: • Work as a member of the Arts & Sciences Marketing team to generate compelling marketing and communications efforts, with key responsibility for the visual design of these efforts • Collaborate with creative professionals including photographers, videographers, and printers to provide art direction and assist in the creation of projects and campaigns • Collaborate with key stakeholders to create compelling content that reflects Arts & Science’s voice and resonates with the audiences • Utilize design techniques; tools and principles; and advanced layout and typography to articulate A&S’ marketing strategy in fresh, effective, and accessible ways • Implement brand identity across all touchpoints and developing materials to support • Honor the A&S and the University's graphic standards, techniques, methods, and style guides in the design process • Participate in creative briefings, project meetings, design review, and content planning meetings • Vetting and coordinating with appropriate vendors engaged to produce creative work on behalf of Arts & Sciences, as needed • Own A&S digital assets library – photos of students, faculty, grounds • Support content workflow based on an understanding of production timelines • Support development of key leadership presentations, such as Dean’s PowerPoint presentations • In coordination with other members of the Marketing team, A&S, UVA, and the College Foundation, be astute to the broader community and ensure that messages are amplified in an appropriate way and tone Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of relevant work experience • A creative, conceptual thinker with advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles including graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) • Demonstrated understanding of page layout, typography, color theory and choice/application of assets such as photography, illustration, and other digital graphics • Familiarity with the creative process including the development and ownership of a project from concept through final production and knowledge of pre-press and printing processes.
