Regularly attends and represents the Department at meetings of the Board of County Commissioners, Planning Commission, other government elected bodies, and with the general public, customers, and media. • Represents the Department to the Board of County Commissioners, other departments and elected officials, other agencies, the public, and the media in the Director’s absence or at his/her direction. • Assist the Director in leading change within the department to build a highly functioning and positive “team” environment. The “team” concept is envisioned for the entire Department, cross-division and within each unit, and for interactions with other county departments.  Position supervises all department staff ensuring timely, complete, and accurate performance of the work product  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, and mentoring employees and assisting with on-boarding of new staff members in close coordination with the county HR Department  Recognizes staff achievements and fosters a positive, collaborative, accountable, and productive work environment within the Department that supports cohesion with and between all staff  Mentoring, coaching, directing, and evaluating management staff on a daily basis and is involved with formal performance evaluations and employee improvement plans for all staff, consistent with department and county policies  Responsible for maintaining employees’ adherence to county personnel policies while maintaining compliance with applicable bargaining unit contract  Provides feedback and recommendations on recognition and/or disciplinary action to the Director
