Communications and Narrative Strategy Director

These include: Commitment to Citizen Action’s mission and vision and passionate about issues of social, racial, economic and environmental justice Ability to think strategically and creatively to solve problems A high degree of professionalism and professional maturity Collaborative work style and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and with people from a variety of different backgrounds What you’ll do and the impact you'll make: Directly supervise the deputy communications director and worldview program director, and lead the organization’s 10-person communications and narrative strategy department, including coaching the team leads for communications and our worldview program Ensure the development of statewide and local press and digital engagement strategies for the advancement of our issue and electoral campaigns Coordinate the communications department’s work with organizing and issue staff to ensure a unified strategy across departments and geographies Supervise and engage with press outreach and digital communications Serve on top management teams to provide strategic direction to our program work Provide vision and direction for the organization’s brand and public perception, our issue campaign work, and our electoral work Support the creation and implementation of our political education work to shift long-term political dynamics Who you are and what you've accomplished: At least six years experience in political or non-profit communications At least four years experience supervising, including experience supervising supervisors Well versed in New York State politics Knowledge of and relationships with New York reporters and press outlets Familiarity with message development, message research, and public opinion research Skills with website development and graphic design a plus Experience using Adobe design software, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator a plus Experience using social media services on behalf of organizations Experience implementing large scale digital advertising campaigns Excellent writing skills and the ability to write high quality content quickly Ability to manage a multitude of tasks in a fast-paced environment Commitment to progressive change, movement-building and working in a multi- racial, multi- cultural environment Willingness to work long or irregular hours, attend evening and weekend events, and travel, as necessary Extra Credit: High level of organization, including experience coordinating multiple fast- paced projects at once while meeting tight deadlines; Extraordinary attention to detail; Ability to see web design projects through from brainstorming to execution; Technical skills with website management, including experience with Wordpress, HTML and CSS, etc. This position is based in Albany, NY.
