About Harper’s Playground Harper’s Playground is a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Portland, OR. Our mission is to inspire vital communities by creating innovative playgrounds for people of all abilities. POSITION DESCRIPTION The Communications Manager will function as a core part of the Harper’s Playground team and work closely with a small yet growing staff to develop, manage, and execute communications strategies through social media, email, web and graphic design, and digital marketing platforms. This position requires a passion for storytelling and the skills to expand and ensure our brand supports and promotes our mission, vision, and values. Comfort with problem-solving and innovating • Places equity and inclusion at the center of all aspects of work • Experience working with diverse populations, and an ability to connect and communicate with a broad spectrum of people, including those with a diversity of economic, cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, and educational backgrounds, age and abilities, and life experiences • Possess a keen design eye and ability to translate the team’s design vision • Strong understanding of brand building and messaging • Education in a related field, such as communications, marketing or journalism plus a few years of related professional experience • Understanding of development, fundraising, and non-profit organizations • Demonstrated passion for our mission, vision, and values • A commitment to maintaining honest, respectful, and open communication • Excellent written communication skills and copy-editing abilities, including a working knowledge of AP style • Nuanced understanding of written and visual messaging • Demonstrated experience working with websites and managing standard social media platforms, including analytics knowledge • Ability to take initiative and work creatively, launching new ideas or driving process improvements • Comfortable working independently as well as a part of a team • Strong graphic design skills and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite preferred • Proficient computer skills including: Wordpress, email marketing, and HTML • Experience in event management is a huge plus BENEFITS Paid time off (20 days FTO) Fulfilling mission Flexible work schedule and work location Healthcare stipend provided until employer-provided health insurance begins PROFESSIONAL LEVEL None specified MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED No requirement WORK ENVIRONMENT: We maintain office space at 1477 NW Everett in Portland, but we primarily work from home.
