Communications Specialist II - Graphic Designer

Description The Communications Specialist II - Graphic Designer is a senior-level creative role responsible for leading the development and execution of high-impact visual communications across digital and print platforms. This position reports to the Director of Communications & Public Engagement and collaborates closely with city departments to translate strategic priorities into compelling graphic design solutions that enhance public awareness, engagement, and trust. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None Typical Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Bridge) Principles of print and digital publication design Web graphics and online presentation techniques Public relations collateral and advertising layout Print production workflows and vendor evaluation practices Photography and visual storytelling principles Public information and journalism practices Municipal and multi-service organization communication strategies Skill in: Graphic design and layout for print and digital media Taking and editing photographs Using design software and desktop publishing tools Preparing and delivering print-ready materials Managing design projects and deadlines Ability to: Create professional graphics aligned with citywide branding and communication goals Operate digital cameras, scanners, and related equipment Prioritize and manage multiple projects independently Communicate clearly through visual, written, and verbal presentations Evaluate vendor proposals and prepare project specifications Edit content for accuracy, grammar, and clarity Stay current with design software and industry trends Promote the City's image through strategic visual storytelling Collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and team members.
