This contract position will report to the Director of Creative Services and support Texas Monthly Studio, the magazine’s in-house creative team responsible for marketing collateral, and client-based projects, including sponsored content, advertising, and custom media. Contract duties include, but are not limited to: • Design custom print publications, including magazines, coffee table books, and visitor guides • Design custom content including advertorials, visual storytelling features, and campaigns across Texas Monthly print and digital platforms • Design digital ads for social, run-of-site, and email marketing • Design event materials, including signage, programs, and branded “swag” Successful candidates will possess the following skills/abilities: • A strong portfolio of work in a variety of mediums • Strong visual communication skills, including a solid understanding of typography, layout, and conceptual skills • Thorough knowledge of digital and print production processes • Strong organizational and time-management skills • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly with other designers and project managers • Web design and motion graphics skills are a plus • Exceptional attention to detail and eagerness to learn • Ability to take direction, whether from clients or colleagues • An aptitude for the ever-changing media and journalism landscape • “Storyteller” Mindset: While most tasks are focused on design execution, strong candidates will have a foundational understanding of what makes a good narrative and can apply this to all assignments that flow through the department.
