Texas Monthly is seeking a Contract Designer for up to 30 hours per week to support the Creative Services team starting immediately. This contract position will report to the Director of Creative Services and support Texas Monthly Studio, the magazine’s in-house creative team responsible for marketing collateral, and client-based projects, including sponsored content, advertising, and custom media.Contract duties include, but are not limited to:Design custom print publications, including magazines, coffee table books, and visitor guidesDesign custom content including advertorials, visual storytelling features, and campaigns across Texas Monthly print and digital platformsDesign digital ads for social, run-of-site, and email marketingDesign event materials, including signage, programs, and branded “swag”Successful candidates will possess the following skills/abilities:A strong portfolio of work in a variety of mediumsStrong visual communication skills, including a solid understanding of typography, layout, and conceptual skillsThorough knowledge of digital and print production processesStrong organizational and time-management skillsAbility to work collaboratively and communicate clearly with other designers and project managersWeb design and motion graphics skills are a plusExceptional attention to detail and eagerness to learnAbility to take direction, whether from clients or colleaguesAn aptitude for the ever-changing media and journalism landscape“Storyteller” Mindset: While most tasks are focused on design execution, strong candidates will have a foundational understanding of what makes a good narrative and can apply this to all assignments that flow through the department.Required Qualifications:Degree in design, visual communications, or related fieldAt least three years of design experienceFluent in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop and InDesignTravel:You don't need to travel.Application Process:We would like to encourage you to apply if you are a qualified candidate interested in this position.
