DIGITIAL PREPRESS ARTIST / GRAPHIC DESIGN

Job Summary

Unlike a traditional graphic artist, a prepress artist must have a thorough understanding of the digital printing process in order to prepare and assemble final files for printing. The successful individual should be able to make all necessary changes to customer artwork in order for the print file to produce the highest quality of printing. A complete understanding of digital print shop processes is desired. Quality final file assembly and art file construction is the primary responsibility of this position.

Duties

The Prepress Operator’s primary duties are to prepare customer artwork for print. The focus is on using technical graphic arts skills to make files print ready including ensuring:

adequate file resolution (including physical and digital size),correct color (CMYK in most cases),spell checkingfont identification / matchingimage quality checkingensuring safe zonesadding/removing bleedsadding/removing crop marksmail merges / variable data setupuppingbooklettingpaginationpaper choice recommendationsproofing on both digital and large format printersYou’ll be helping our customers communicate their messages on digitally printed materials including business cards, flyers, brochures, booklets, posters, chops, etc., as well as digitally printed large format materials including stickers, vinyl lettering, posters, foamcore, lawn signs, etc. Strong knowledge and direct experience in pre-flighting and troubleshooting customer files is required. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are required, as is the ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

Required Skills/Experience

Three or more years experience in print prepressStrong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including inDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.Proficient with Mac and Windows desktop applications, including Prepress/PDF editors such as Quite Imposing.Knowledge of Pantone, RGB and CYMKAbility to learn and work in print shop workflow systemsKnowledge of special print applications such as foil-stamping, embossing, and QR code applicationsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent problem-solving skillsAbility to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressureOrganized and detail-orientedExperience with digital art creation, photo editing, photo manipulation, typography design for media, and digital design principles.Knowledge of print production processes including print and large format.Technical skills in operating digital press equipment along with troubleshooting hardware or software issues during production runs.Ability to recognize and visually differentiate colors and fonts.Ability to apply critical thinking and common-sense understanding to daily tasks.Good communication skills and can learn quickly.Detail-oriented with an ability to prioritize work and minimize production downtime.Ability to work independently and within a team environmentMust enjoy working with the public.Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
