Editorial Designer

This role is responsible for designing compelling features and layouts that elevate our storytelling, engage audiences, and reflect the authority and innovation of the Globe’s journalism. At The Boston Globe, we are committed to independent, trustworthy journalism. Design engaging layouts and visual presentations for both print and digital news propertiesPartner across the newsroom to conceive and execute features that extend and deepen the impact of our journalismDesign and build custom digital story elements using HTML and CSS, including visual modules, interactive features, and responsive layoutsPrototype and implement web-based storytelling components within the Globe’s publishing systemsCollaborate with product, engineering, and editorial teams to develop new digital storytelling tools and formatsExperiment with new storytelling formats, digital tools, and visual approachesTranslate complex reporting into clear, compelling visual experiencesCollaborate with editors, reporters, photographers, and developers to bring projects to lifeHelp create and commission photography, illustration, artwork, and other visual elementsEnsure visual consistency and uphold Globe brand standards across platformsWork efficiently and collaboratively under tight deadlines in a fast-paced newsroomContribute to evolving design standards, templates, and best practices for both print and digital platformsQualifications: This position is based in Boston, and candidates should be based in the area or willing to move.
