Junior Graphic Designer / Retail Associate

Write Impressions is looking for a creative, personable and exceptionally detail-oriented Junior Graphic Designer / Retail Associate to join our team.

This is an entry-level, long-term training position for someone who wants to grow as a graphic designer while learning the day-to-day workings of a busy, creative retail business.

We want to be transparent about the position: this is not a traditional graphic design job where you will spend your entire day at a computer designing. Especially at the beginning, a significant part of your role will involve working with customers on our sales floor while learning our products, our invitation business and the way our design team works.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will grow as you gain experience and confidence. Initially, your time will include

* Helping create graphics and content for social media

*.Learning how to write and process simple invitation and stationery orders

Assisting our graphic designer with day-to-day projects and production tasksPreparing files, making simple design changes and assisting with other graphic design projects as your skills developProofreading and carefully checking the details of customer ordersPitching in wherever needed as part of a small, collaborative teamAssisting customers with purchases and providing friendly, knowledgeable serviceHow the Position Will Grow

We view this as a training and development position, not a short-term stepping stone.

As you learn our business, our customers and our design standards, you will gradually take on more responsibility within the graphic design side of the company. The right person will have the opportunity to grow into more independent design work and increasingly complex customer projects.

We don't expect an entry-level candidate to know everything on day one. We do expect someone who is eager to learn, pays close attention to details and takes pride in getting things right.

We're Looking For Someone Who

Has a degree or training in graphic design, or a strong entry-level portfolioIs comfortable working in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, InDesign and PhotoshopHas a good eye for typography, color and layoutIs highly detail-oriented and accurateEnjoys working with people and is comfortable interacting with customersIs willing to learn, take direction and ask questionsIs organized and able to manage several different types of tasks during the dayIs looking for a position where they can learn, contribute and grow over timeHours & Availability

This position can be approximately 25–30 hours per week or full-time, depending upon the candidate's availability.

We are especially interested in candidates who have flexibility to work some evenings and weekends. Candidates with greater evening and weekend availability may have the opportunity for a full-time schedule.

Write Impressions is an independent stationery, invitation and gift store in downtown Royal Oak. In addition to our retail store, we specialize in custom invitations and stationery and have an in-house graphic design team.
