We are seeking a qualified Graphic Design Consultant to support both firm-wide document design and project-specific visual communications. The ideal candidate will have strong graphic design and visual communication skills, excellent document production capabilities, and familiarity with architecture, landscape architecture, planning, urban design, transportation, or other disciplines related to the built environment.

This role combines document design, graphic communication, and visual storytelling. The consultant will help develop professional templates and graphic standards for use by other staff, while also producing project-specific reports, presentations, diagrams, infographics, and public-facing materials as needed. They will work under the Managing Principal and coordinate closely with all staff including the Urban Design Director.

A successful candidate will be able to translate complex planning, development, transportation, and urban design concepts into graphics that are visually compelling and easy for clients, decision-makers, and community members to understand. Consultants who excel in their work may translate their expertise into a part- or full-time position with the company if desired.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain document templates in Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and other software, as necessary.Create report layouts and graphic standards for planning and urban design documents.Design diagrams, infographics, process graphics, maps, and illustrations that communicate planning and design concepts.Assist in the preparation of presentation materials for City Councils, Planning Commissions, stakeholder meetings, workshops, and community engagement events.Create visual materials that support public understanding of development, transportation, housing, and urban design topics.Work closely with planners, urban designers, and project managers to communicate technical information effectively.Support ongoing refinement of the firm’s branding, visual identity, and document production standards.Assist with formatting, quality control, and final production of major reports and deliverables.Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in graphic design or equivalent.3+ years of professional graphic design experience, or professional experience preparing graphics for planners, urban designers, architects, landscape architects, etc.Strong portfolio demonstrating document design, report layout, infographics, and visual communications. In process design work leading to final designs and showcasing thought process also helpful.Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.Experience designing long-form reports and publication-quality documents.Ability to communicate technical information through clear and engaging visual design.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent assignments.Additional Desired Skills and Qualifications

Experience working in or serving clients in the architecture, engineering or planning sectors.3D modeling (SketchUp, Rhino, or other) to support in-house rendering efforts.Use of geographic information systems (GIS) for mapping and data visualization.Video editing for small video production marketing and project-based efforts.Social media and web content creation.Bilingual written communication in English and Spanish.Compensation and Schedule

This position will begin as a consultant position with hourly or per-job compensation to prepare of templates and presentations. Based on performance, the role may be expanded into a part-time hourly or salaried position including project-specific design assignments. Scheduling is generally flexible. The candidate’s ability to attend full-day worksessions and other in-person meetings in the office in Pasadena, CA is preferred, but remote workers will also be considered.
