Experience working with under-resourced or justice-impacted youth, and comfort addressing social justice and socially engaged art, is strongly preferred.ResponsibilitiesCommit to the duration of assigned program placement(s) across the academic year (schedule and site placement determined in collaboration with CAW; locations may include Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Queens)Use graphic design and design thinking methodologies as vehicles for youth developmentCollaborate with CAW Program Management staff to implement and refine curriculum and lesson plansTeach core graphic design concepts (layout, typography, hierarchy, visual storytelling) alongside illustration, character development, and conceptual sketchingFacilitate critique, iteration, and project management practices aligned with real-world creative workflowsBuild an inclusive, supportive classroom culture with strong classroom management and intentional community-buildingRepresent Creative Art Works in interactions with school and community partnersParticipate in required professional development sessionsDeliver accurate and timely documentation, including attendance, lesson plans, evaluations, photos, and time sheetsPrepare youth and their work for exhibitions, showcases, and culminating eventsSupport site coordination in partnership with CAW Program ManagersRequired QualificationsBA/BFA in Graphic Design, Art, Digital Arts, Arts Education, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)Minimum 3 years of experience teaching youth in school or community-based settingsStrong classroom management and facilitation skillsProficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop (print-ready and digital workflows)Experience teaching design thinking, concept development, critique, and iterationAbility to teach illustration and character design fundamentals in support of graphic design outcomesStrong cultural competency and comfort addressing social justice topics and socially engaged artPassion for Creative Youth DevelopmentAbility to clear NYC’s PETS background check system and CAW’s background check systemPreferred / “Plus” QualificationsMaster’s DegreeProficiency or fluency in SpanishExperience in workforce development and/or restorative justice settingsExperience teaching both visual arts and multimedia arts programsExperience collaborating with core teachers or in-school partnersExperience managing Teaching Artist Assistants (TAAs)NY State Teacher CertificationNew York City life experience strongly preferredPayCreative Art Works offers competitive hourly compensation that includes teaching time, prep, lesson planning, staff coordination, and professional development.
