DescriptionThe Graphic Designer 2 position is located within the Public Affairs Bureau of the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) located in Albany Office. The Graphic Designer 2 reports directly to the Director of Public Information (NS) for the agency. The Public Affairs Bureau (PAB) reports to the Commissioner of OPRHP.Duties DescriptionUnder the general supervision of the Director of Marketing, the Graphic Designer 2 is responsible for developing a wide range of graphics, publications and digital content and conducts duties and responsibilities with a good deal of independence. The position is responsible for the following.Act as a lead designer for the agencyWork across the agency to provide clear and consistent brand identity and branding guidelinesProvide technical guidance and consultation to park staff in such matters as the most effective use of color, illustrations, layout, production, methods of presentation, and costProduce and edit visual promotional materials for the agency’s properties and programs to be used with the general public as well as to specific targeted audiences and regional communitiesParticipate in planning and development of a broad range of multimedia products to support the agency’s programs and initiatives in collaboration with other Public Affairs Bureau (PAB) staff and with input from agency program staff (bureau heads and program experts)Work together with agency program staff to confirm facts and accuracy of illustrative or visual material released by the PAB to the publicCollaborate with PAB staff in developing and planning public service announcements and videosPartner with agency PAB, program, and information technology staff to enhance the design and functions available to the public on the OPRHP website and intranetAdvise and support agency program and IT staff on appropriate illustrations and videos to enhance OPRHP web content.Assist in planning marketing and promotional campaigns for the agency to cultivate new visitors; and target efforts to drive visitors to underutilized properties and/or off-peak times (i.e. mid-week)Design and prepare artistic/pictorial/illustration graphic material for use in various agency publications and media releases: website content, press releases, reports, power point presentations, slide shows, videos and exhibitsProduce publications and artwork for promotional, informational, and educational use for New York State Parks and Historic Sites properties, the State Council of Parks, Natural Heritage Trust, as well as individual parks, regions and bureausCreate brochures, annual reports, fund-raising materials and other publications for the agency programs and initiativesEstablish and maintain relationships with other OPRHP bureaus and outside OPRHP marketing entities including other state government agencies and tourism professionals regarding public information media issues and projects.Develop signage/interpretive panels for special projects, events, and initiativesWork with vendors to procure select printing and production servicesManage time and workload efficiently to stay on task and timelineCommunicate effectively to key stakeholders, including the public information officer and director of marketingHave knowledge and awareness of key accessibility standards for print and digitalCollaborate effectively with marketing and public affairs specialists on agencywide projectsQualificationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in an art or design field such as art, drawing, painting, illustration, digital design, or interactive media and two years of experience; or an associate’s degree in the same fields and four years of experience.BenefitsPaid Time Off44 days - 13 Vacation days, 13 Sick days, and 5 Personal Leave days, 13 Holidays.Three (3) days of professional leave annually to participate in professional development.Health Care BenefitsEligible employees and dependents can pick from a variety of affordable health insurance programs.Family dental and vision benefits at no additional cost.Additional BenefitsNew York State Employees’ Retirement System (ERS) MembershipNYS Deferred CompensationAccess to NY 529 and NY ABLE College Savings Programs, as well as U.S. Savings BondsPublic Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)Paid Parental / Family LeaveTo learn more about our benefits, visit: https://parks.ny.gov/employment/benefits.aspx.#J-18808-Ljbffr
