The successful candidate should possess the following traits:
• Personable – work well in a team environment
• Self-Starter – knowing what needs to get done and doing it, without major oversight
• Good Listener – understanding the key nuances of a graphic presentation that is meant to capture the imagination of a potential client requires keen listening skills to those who are helping write the proposal. If a picture is worth a 1,000 words then it has to be really poignant and count.
• Creative – possess the ability to see through the clutter and imagine the beauty of what something could be and then respond to it in a variety of mediums.
• High-Energy, yet Patient – we get busy and move fast, but are also working on projects that take 2-10 years to come to fruition. Having multiple speeds is key
• Excellent customer service goes a long way - We want to enjoy working with our Graphics Designer & visa versa because no matter what project we’re collaborating on, or problem we’re helping solve, we always want to do it enthusiastically and with a smile. Whether you’re having a bad day, or their software keeps crashing, it’s not our client’s fault. Every person that reaches out for graphics support should receive the same high level of service, and attention to detail; this keeps all of us happy and coming back for more of your skills and support.
• No one knows our brand better - The Graphics Designer should be THE expert on our brand! When you work surrounded by and married to the VITA brand, no one knows the brand, and its assets, better than our Graphics Designer. You understand the value in which the assets are being used, how to implement them in the most viable manor, and how to make changes and updates that will benefit the firm.
• Delivering exceptional graphics, on time and on budget - In order to maintain a high-quality and cost-effective workflow, you will need to understand the importance of adhering to deadlines and embracing our client’s expectations. It is our Graphics Designer’s responsibility to make sure all details are being followed and the process runs smoothly. The key is to ask the right questions, understand the project, and discuss the parameters with the project managers and principals in charge in order to manage their expectations.
• Keeping the lines of communication open - With technology on the forefront and our day-to-day communication circling mostly around emails and instant messaging (which are great) we tend to neglect the power of talking to each other directly. In order to consistently maintain a strong level of communication, we must learn how to harness the power these tools provided to keep conversations alive throughout the duration of our projects. The minute there is a breakdown in communication, problems start to happen, and deadlines are in jeopardy.
• Every hurdle encountered should be taken as a challenge to find the best solution - It may sound cliché, but we must learn from our successes and failures. Take the opportunity to continually share these lessons with our design team, and new designers, to help them build their careers. The VITA Graphic Designer’s mantra should be to maintain consistency in our graphics and service, which in turn strengthens VITA’s reputation and builds confidences within our firm and clients.
