The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating innovative, market-driven artwork and packaging concepts across gift, impulse, partyware, gift wrap, gift bags, tags, boxes, stationery, and seasonal product categories. This role combines trend research, creative design, product development, and production execution to deliver commercially successful products for major retailers and private label programs.
The ideal candidate is highly creative, detail-oriented, trend-aware, and experienced in developing print and packaging designs from concept through production. They must thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and balance creative excellence with business objectives, retailer requirements, and production realities. This position reports to the Associate Creative Director.
This is a full-time hybrid position based in our Edina, MN office. Garven requires two days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday) in office.
Key Responsibilities
Research consumer, retail, fashion, home décor, and gifting trends.Monitor competitors, retailers, and industry developments.Participate in store walks, trade show research, and competitive analysis.Design gift packaging, gift bags, gift wrap, tags, boxes, tissue, stickers, partyware, impulse products, and gifts.Develop original surface patterns, illustrations, typography treatments, and coordinated product programs.Translate trend direction into commercially viable product concepts.Create seasonal product collections across holidays and everyday occasions.Generate concepts from initial sketches through final production-ready artwork.Create presentation materials, concept boards, mockups, and retailer-facing visuals.Customize artwork and product designs to meet customer and retailer requirements.Prepare accurate production files and manufacturing specifications.Ensure all artwork meets print, packaging, and factory requirements.Review proofs, color separations, pre-production samples, and manufacturing approvals.Partner with sourcing and factory teams to resolve design and production challenges.Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Creative, Product Development, Sales, and Sourcing teams.Collaborate with Product Development and Sales to identify opportunities for innovation and assortment expansion.Participate in line reviews, customer presentations, and development meetings.Maintain project timelines and manage multiple concurrent programs.Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Illustration, or related field.Experience
3–7+ years of graphic design experience.Experience in gift packaging, stationery, seasonal products, home décor, greetings, partyware, licensing, or consumer products preferred.Experience designing for retail and private-label programs preferred.Technical Skills
Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and Miro.Strong understanding of print production and packaging development.Experience creating production-ready files for overseas manufacturing.Knowledge of color management, dielines, repeats, and print specifications.Microsoft Office and macOS proficiency required.Creative Skills
Strong typography, color, layout, and composition abilities.Pattern development and surface design experience preferred.Illustration skills a plus.Ability to interpret trend information and translate it into commercially successful design.Travel
