Graphic Designer II

The Graphic Designer reports to the Exhibitions Design Director. In addition to the responsibilities of Junior Graphic Designer (Graphic Designer I) the Graphic Designer II: • is responsible for the quality and timeliness of graphic design packages • is responsible for the integration of graphics into the larger exhibit or building design • May collaborate with other graphic designers on exhibition projects, working within established aesthetic guidelines • Completes work requests for branded designs for internal clients • Shares work in progress with managers and team members to communicate approaches, receive feedback, and respond to concerns • Prepares rough drafts, concepts, and graphic layouts for review and approval at formal milestone presentations. Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree in Arts, Graphic Design, Visual Communication or similar • At least two years of graphic design experience is required • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop required • Some fabrication and printing experience is required • Knowledge of printing materials, including printing and fabrication processes • Illustration skills a plus • Strong communication skills • Ability to listen and desire to collaborate; willingness to respond to issues in a collaborative environment • Ability to work in a coordinated way on multiple projects at the same time • Respond positively to criticism and adjust designs based on feedback from multiple stakeholders • Ability to problem solve and comply with multiple guidelines and limitations in a creative, practical, and efficient way • Ability to interpret technical drawings, floor plans, elevations, perspectives, and shop drawings • Understanding of design styles and cultural appropriateness • Show care for the museum’s mission, staff, and collections • Ability to work with a computer for extended periods Along with your application please include: • A cover letter • Your portfolio as a link or attachment • A sample of pre-existing work that you think best represents your ability to design a large-scale print graphic At the Field Museum, we are dedicated to making our career website and recruitment process accessible to everyone.
