This position is responsible for the design and implementation of a wide range of institutional print materials and signage. The graphic designer works closely with the design and publications team to develop the quarterly member newsletter and other design elements that promote the center’s exhibitions and programs. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.Essential Job FunctionsDesign print materials, which may include member newsletters, invitations, educational brochures, fundraising materials, catalogs, flyers, print ads, and postersDesign digital files for use in promoting exhibitions and events on social media and various other screen-based platformsDesign signage to clearly communicate with museum visitors, including, but not limited to, wayfinding signage, digital screens, and donor recognitionParticipate in collaborative planning and design development processesSolicit and evaluate multiple quotes from outside vendors, contractors, and printersManage project development and production schedules for assigned tasksParticipate in departmental budgetingTracking of project expenses compared to budgetWork effectively with volunteers and internsCoordinate projects with outside contract designers when necessaryQualificationsEducationBachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or equivalent. A background in art history is a plus.Work ExperienceThe ideal candidate will have one to three years of experience in print-based graphic design and production.Skills and AbilitiesExcellent skill in developing, planning, and implementing high-quality graphicsStrong portfolio demonstrating design work in a variety of areasStrong page layout and typographical skillsKnowledge of printing techniques, including offset, digital, and large-scale output and on-press supervisionBe versed in both digital and photographic techniques and their utilization in printing productionStrong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (In Design, Illustrator, and Photoshop)Strong communication skills, both oral and writtenAbility to contribute creatively in a team-oriented workplaceAbility to comfortably manage a broad array of projectsExcellent work-flow organizational skills and ability to meet deadlinesExcellent problem-solving skillsDetail and precision-orientedPhysical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
