Job DescriptionJob DescriptionAbout UsDesign Science is a human factors consultancy specializing in the design and evaluation of medical devices and healthcare technologies. We help clients develop safe, effective, and user-friendly products by applying principles of human-centered design and human factors engineering throughout the development lifecycle. Our work spans formative research, usability testing, risk mitigation, and design support.The RoleWe’re seeking a Designer to join our multidisciplinary team. You'll collaborate closely with human factors specialists, researchers, and the marketing team to ensure all deliverables are visually engaging, accessible, and grounded in both design best practices and industry standards and guidance.This is a great opportunity for a designer looking to make a meaningful impact in healthcare by improving how users interact with complex systems and critical technologies.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and produce instructional materials (e.g., user manuals, quick-reference guides, labels) that are consistent with usability standards and regulatory expectationsDevelop visual assets for marketing, including flyers, social media graphics, slide decks, and reportsSupport the human factors team by creating wireframes, mockups, and visual aids for concept development and user testingTranslate research findings and technical content into accessible, user-centered visualsContribute to the visual consistency and quality of client deliverables and internal brandingStay informed of design trends, medical device industry regulations, and human factors standards relevant to design and documentationRequired QualificationsDegree in Graphic Design, Communication Design, Industrial Design, or a related field1 year work experience is a minimum requirementStrong portfolio showcasing experience with visual communication, layout, and instructional designProficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) Ability to communicate complex concepts visually with clarity and sensitivity to different user needsExcellent attention to detail, typography, and visual hierarchyStrong organizational and time management skillsThe finalist will be required to successfully complete a background check.Nice to HaveExperience designing materials for medical products, regulated industries, or safety-critical systemsFamiliarity with FDA and IEC guidance (e.g., IEC 62366, ISO 14971)Motion design or video editing skills (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro)Basic understanding of human factors or usability engineeringWhat We OfferA mission-driven team working to improve patient safety and healthcare experiencesHands-on exposure to medical product development and regulatory design processesExcellent Medical, Dental, Vision, Flexible Spending Accounts for Medical, Dependent Care, Commuter/Parking, STD/LTD, generous 401K match, PTO, Paid Holidays, Professional Development and an awesome work environment.ApplicationPlease submit application, cover letter and portfolio for consideration.EOEM/F/D/V Design Science supports a diverse and inclusive work culture with an emphasis on the free and open exchange of ideas and opinions.
