Graphic Designer - Reprographics & Print Production (DOTGOBUS SUP 18787)

State of New Mexico Santa Fe, New Mexico $20.56–$30.85 an hour

## Graphic Designer – NMDOT Reprographics Shop

We’re the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), based in Santa Fe. Our IT Division keeps the state’s transportation operations running smoothly, and our reprographics shop is the team that handles the department’s print and design needs—from newsletters and forms to signage, promotional materials, and public-facing communications. We’re looking for a Graphic Designer who can bring both creative design skills and hands-on print production knowledge to this full-time, permanent role.

**Pay & Benefits**
- Hourly rate: $20.56 – $30.85
- Annual salary: $42,773 – $64,160 (Pay Band C4)
- If you’re an external hire new to the State of New Mexico Government, you may receive three (3) days of administrative leave on your start date.

This posting is a continuous job opening—it may close at any time, and applicant lists may be screened more than once. The posting end date is 09/18/2026, so apply when you’re ready.

### What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be the go-to person for customers who walk in or call with print jobs. That means answering questions about services, clarifying specs (paper, sizing, finishes, turnaround times), and guiding them through the process. You’ll also monitor shared communication channels, route inquiries, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

At the front counter, you’ll intake print jobs, log requests, and verify that source files meet production requirements. When a job needs special materials or outsourced printing, you’ll get quotes from vendors, compare options, and present recommendations to shop leadership. You’ll also initiate and process purchase requests for supplies, materials, and minor equipment—following our procurement procedures. And you’ll help manage and inventory tracked assets.

### What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate has a mix of design and print shop experience, along with a customer-first attitude. Here’s what we’d love to see:

- **Customer comfort** – Helping people over the phone, at the front desk, or through a ticket queue, without hesitation.
- **Print shop know-how** – Time spent prepping files for offset, digital, and large-format jobs.
- **Troubleshooting mindset** – When something doesn’t go as planned, you figure it out.
- **Full job ownership** – From the start of a project all the way through cutting, folding, laminating, and bindery.
- **Coordination skills** – Working with customers, vendors, and management to get quotes and make purchases happen.
- **Tech basics** – Comfortable with basic computer, printer, or networking troubleshooting.
- **Genuine enjoyment** – You like working with customers and aren’t afraid of technology—whether that means fixing an issue on the spot or learning as you go.

### Education & Experience Requirements

- High School Diploma or equivalent **and** two (2) years of relevant experience.
- Or any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years.

You must also possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico—or be willing to pass and receive that certificate as a condition of continued employment.

### Work Environment & Physical Demands

This role is based in a print production/shop setting. You’ll regularly use computers, design software, and equipment like offset presses, digital printers, large-format printers, cutters, and finishing machines. You’ll interact frequently with division staff and customers—in person, by phone, email, and through job/print requests—to scope projects and coordinate timelines.

Day-to-day duties include operating and troubleshooting print production equipment, preparing and loading paper stock and print media, and performing routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on shop hardware and networked print devices. Expect to lift and carry paper stock, print supplies, and equipment—occasionally up to 50 pounds. The job also involves bending, standing, and walking around the shop for extended periods while working around active production.

### How to Apply & Contact

This position is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
