Junior Sign Designer

About the Position

SignCraft is looking for a driven Junior Sign Designer with a strong graphic design foundation and an interest in the sign industry. This is an entry-level opportunity for a designer who enjoys both creative problem-solving and the production side of design.

This role will focus heavily on fast-turnaround signage projects, working with customer-provided artwork, preparing production-ready files, and creating designs that are not only visually effective but also practical to manufacture.

What You'll Do

Create fast-turnaround designs for banners, posters, yard signs, channel letters, panel signs, dimensional signage and other sign applications.Adapt existing designs, logos and customer-provided artwork for a variety of signage applications.Clean up, recreate and modify artwork when necessary to make it suitable for production.Prepare accurate, production-ready artwork for printing, routing, cutting and other fabrication processes.Create layouts and design concepts based on customer requirements, existing branding and project specifications.Apply strong typography, composition, hierarchy and color principles to signage and environmental graphics.Design with real-world production considerations in mind, including materials, scale, dimensions, fabrication and installation.Review artwork carefully for spelling, dimensions, colors, materials and other project specifications before sending files to production.Communicate with sales, production and other members of the design team to clarify project requirements and resolve design or production issues.Make revisions based on feedback from customers, sales staff and the design team.Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.Prioritize work throughout the day and adjust quickly when rush projects or changing deadlines arise.Maintain organized job files and follow established company workflow and production procedures.Work closely with the lead designer and production team to ensure designs can be fabricated and installed as intended.Learn new software, production methods, materials and signage techniques as needed.Take on new challenges and responsibilities as your knowledge and skills develop.

Qualifications

BFA/BA in Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design or a related field from an accredited university, or equivalent professional experience.Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.Strong understanding of typography, layout, composition, hierarchy and color.Basic understanding of print design and production setup for flatbed and roll-to-roll printers.Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.Strong communication and organizational skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Ability to take feedback and criticism constructively and make appropriate revisions.Ability to communicate effectively with non-designers and translate project requirements into effective designs.Self-motivated and able to work independently while knowing when to ask questions.Willingness to learn the technical and production aspects of the sign industry.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to pivot quickly when project requirements change.

Portfolio

Applicants should provide a portfolio demonstrating strong graphic design fundamentals, particularly typography, layout, composition and visual problem-solving. Work demonstrating print, large-format, environmental, branding or production design is a plus.
