The portfolio should be uploaded as a PDF attachment to your application.Core ResponsibilitiesDevelop, write, edit, design, and produce various communication materials including newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, public service announcements, monthly utility bill inserts, press releases, articles, multimedia presentations, correspondence, reports, speeches, videos, podcasts, and special publications.Coordinate with staff, contractors, and vendors to produce materials within budget and timeline constraints for city programs and events.Design and implement materials for public relations, public outreach, education communication, media programs, and marketing for various city departments.Photograph or video record pertinent sites and subject matter for public presentation; write, edit, review, and proof copy for printed materials and exhibits.Design and coordinate video presentations using script‑writing techniques; assist in developing content for video, audio, and commercial artwork for print, online, and multimedia publications.Receive, coordinate, design, and process social media requests from various city departments.Maintain the content of the city’s website and social media channels ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality by coordinating the resources of various departments.Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to city‑wide internal and external brand styles and guidelines.Review graphic artwork from various departments to assure adherence to city public information style guidelines.Assist in the planning and organization of event logistics with public and private sector agencies, business, and community groups.Confer with departments on initiatives, programs, and projects; provide guidance and direction regarding strategic communication planning and implementation.Serve on committees and represent the city at public meetings or community events as required.Ensure all digital content produced is compliant with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) guidelines.Respond to inquiries and requests for information from media, government agencies, city staff, and the public.Build and maintain positive working relationships with co‑workers, other city employees and the public using principles of good customer service.Maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures.Perform related duties as assigned.Knowledge RequirementsPrinciples and practices of public relations, media, marketing, and advertising.Effective methods for preparing and presenting facts and information to the public and the media, including formatting for publications and news releases.Writing and editing techniques for a variety of audiences.Research and problem‑solving techniques.Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.Software skills including Windows, Word, and desktop publishing programs.Methods and principles of photography and videography.Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.Office procedures and equipment such as computers and applicable software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).AbilitiesFunction effectively under multiple deadlines.Interpret and explain complex information clearly and understandably.Apply city‑wide and departmental policies.Interpret the city’s Strategic Plan and various council and executive directives for content alignment.Write, edit, design, photograph, and video record.Use computer graphic systems and software to create publications and communications.Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Operate office equipment, including computers, supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.Experience and Training GuidelinesMinimum two years of experience in graphic design with one year of experience in video and podcast production desirable.
