Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) has a bold mission: Predict, prevent, reverse and cure immune system diseases, from autoimmune disease to cancer to COVID-19. Overview The Outreach Coordinator works with the Outreach Supervisor to promote Benaroya Research Institute’s type 1 diabetes (T1D) research to patients, healthcare providers, and T1D groups throughout the Pacific Northwest; and to recruit participants for studies and clinical trials. Administrative work is also a big part of this role, including tasks such as inventory management; making copies of study forms and recruitment materials; and daily fielding of phone calls, emails and online inquiries about research or troubleshooting requests. Responsibilities: • Daily response to phone, email and online inquiries from individuals and healthcare providers • Maintain relationships with existing partner clinics, T1D groups, healthcare professionals and individuals; and strategically identify and develop opportunities for new partnerships to promote T1D research studies at Benaroya Research Institute and recruit participants into clinical trials • Use existing spreadsheets to track and manage relationships with clinics, providers, T1D groups and potential participants. In some cases, you will staff the exhibitor table • General administrative tasks to support department programs • Must maintain subject and document confidentiality at all times; understand and comply with appropriate protocols and regulations Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, medical sciences, biology, or other related field, and minimum one year full-time related experience such as marketing communications, project or event coordination, public relations, or working in a community outreach, advocacy, or medical research setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience • Understands T1D and is passionate about research, is interested in medical science and has the ability to explain scientific concepts to a lay audience • Strong listening and interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to interact with people from a wide variety of backgrounds • Aptitude for organizing and tracking data as well as tracking and maintaining physical inventories of recruitment materials and blood draw supplies.
