Police Community Information Coordinator

Position Overview: The Springfield Police Department is seeking a Police Community Information Coordinator to support media and public relations, information sharing, and community outreach services. For the complete job description, please see Police Community Information Coordinator on the City’s classifications page: http://www.springfield- or.gov/city/human-resources/classifications-pay-scales/ Education / Experience: Associate’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field, and: • A minimum of one (1) year experience in public relations, marketing, communication, or journalism. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background. Special Requirements: • Have no felony convictions • Misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed based on relevancy to the position • Must meet minimum physical and psychological requirements as defined by a physician • Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes working evenings, weekends, and holidays • Must refrain from the use of tobacco products while on duty Licensing and Certifications: • Valid Oregon Driver’s License by time of appointment and be maintained • Pass Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background requirements (including fingerprints) • Possession of or the ability to obtain a Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification within three (3) months of hire, and renewal every two (2) years Preferences may be given for knowledge and experience in the following: • Bilingual in Spanish • Experience with a municipal police or sheriff’s office • Proficiency with web and graphic design • G290 FEMA Public Information Officer Certification • Experience as acting public information officer in emergency management communications Selection and Interview Process: Top candidates will be invited to interview.
