Reporting to the Director of External Affairs, the Senior Designer serves as the Museum’s primary design professional, ensuring a consistent, sophisticated, and mission-aligned visual presence across all audience touchpoints.This position is responsible for the development, production, and ongoing evolution of high-quality creative assets supporting exhibitions, advancement initiatives, Membership programs, educational offerings, special events, visitor communications, publications, and digital platforms. The Senior Designer works closely with colleagues across departments to translate institutional goals into compelling visual experiences that reflect the Museum’s standards of excellence and historic significance.Responsibilities Design Leadership and Visual IdentityLead the design and production of print and digital materials that support the Museum’s mission, programs, and strategic priorities.Maintain and strengthen a cohesive visual identity across institutional communications, ensuring consistency in typography use, imagery, graphic composition, and overall design execution.Serve as a trusted creative partner to departments throughout the Museum, providing design expertise and guidance from concept through final execution.Evaluate and refine visual communication approaches and design systems to strengthen audience engagement and support the Museum’s reputation for excellence.Creative Development and ProductionDesign and produce a wide range of materials including exhibition graphics, marketing campaigns, publications, invitations, membership collateral, donor communications, educational materials, event branding, signage, presentations, advertising, and digital content.Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards for design quality, accuracy, and timeliness.Prepare production‑ready files and oversee print and fabrication processes to ensure successful execution across various formats and environments.Coordinate with external vendors, printers, fabricators, photographers, and freelancers as needed.Cross-Department CollaborationPartner with colleagues in Advancement, Membership, Education, Visitor Services, Curatorial, Special Events, and Executive leadership to develop effective visual solutions that support departmental goals.Collaborate with exhibition teams to create interpretive graphics, way finding elements, and visitor‑facing materials that enhance the guest experience.Support fundraising and membership initiatives through compelling campaign materials and donor‑facing communications.Contribute to institutional planning discussions by providing creative insight and visual perspective.Digital CommunicationsDesign assets for the Museum’s digital assets, namely the website, email marketing, digital advertising, and other online platforms.Ensure visual consistency across digital channels while adapting creative content to meet platform‑specific requirements and audience needs.Collaborate on the ongoing evolution of the Museum’s digital presence and user experience.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.Seven or more years of professional design experience, preferably within a museum, cultural institution, nonprofit, higher education, or agency environment.Exceptional proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and related applications.Demonstrated expertise in both print production and digital design.Strong understanding of typography, layout, visual hierarchy, and identity systems.Experience managing projects from concept through final production.Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.Kno…
