JOB TITLE: Graphic Design & Social Media Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

STATUS: Part-time, 20 hours per week

COMPENSATION: $27-$30 per hour, PTO, sick time, 3% SIMPLE IRA match

LOCATION: Hybrid

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Graphic Design & Social Media Coordinator is a creative and detail-oriented professional responsible for producing on-brand visual content across print, digital, and social media platforms in support of the Downtown San Leandro Community Benefit District’s programs and events. The Graphic Design & Social Media Coordinator should have strong design skills, social media fluency, and a collaborative spirit.

About the Downtown San Leandro CBD 

The San Leandro Improvement Association (SLIA) is a public benefit corporation responsible for administering the Downtown San Leandro Community Benefit Improvement District (CBD). Services funded by the CBD include maintaining cleanliness and order in public rights-of-way, enhancing district identity both online and in public spaces through improved amenities and special events, fulfilling the corporation's administrative needs, and advocating for property owners, business owners, and residents within the area. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Graphic Design

Produces polished, on-brand visual materials across print and digital formats in support of district events (twelve per year) and downtown programming.Design and format paid advertisements for print and digital, ensuring correct specifications and brand consistency across all outlets.Create platform-specific graphics for Instagram and Facebook, maintaining visual consistency with Downtown San Leandro’s brand identity.Design posters, postcards, signs, banners, and other printed materials from concept through print-ready file preparation.Build and maintain reusable templates in Canva for staff use.

Website Updates

Maintains accurate and timely content on the Downtown San Leandro website.Update pages with current press releases, media coverage, and assets.Post and update events listings, calendar listings, and public program details.Refresh homepage content and featured imagery to reflect current programming priorities.Monitor and fix broken links, outdated pages, or content requiring revision.

District Newsletters

Create a monthly district newsletter highlighting district updates, business promotions, openings, and local events.Maintains an accurate log of newsletters on the Downtown San Leandro newsletter subscribe page.

Social Media Coordination

Coordinates Downtown San Leandro’s presence across Facebook and Instagram to build audience engagement, promote programming, and advance visibility.Contribute to and maintain a monthly social media content calendar.Produce and schedule posts across Facebook and Instagram, including graphics, captions, and relevant hashtags.Photography & Video Capture: Assist in capturing or sourcing visual content for social media, including event photography, reels, and short-form video.Monitor comments, messages, and mentions across platforms; respond or escalate as appropriate in a timely manner.Stay current on platform algorithm changes, trends, and best practices; recommend adjustments to strategy as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications, Graphic Design, or related field.Professional experience: two to four years of experience in marketing-related work, within a creative context. Graphic design and digital marketing experience are essential.Must be detail-oriented and deadline-driven with strong time and project management skills.Ability to follow best practices and create consistent content aligned with Downtown San Leandro’s mission, optimizing campaigns across various channels, including social media, email updates, and traditional print media.Enthusiastic, dependable, eager to learn and grow. Must have a good attitude and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of a small, dynamic team.Flexible schedule to attend special events.Knowledge/skills/abilities: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience working with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Acrobat, Google Suite, MailChimp, SEO, and WordPress website updating preferred. Goal-oriented. Strong writing abilities.Photography, running social media ads; experience working in a nonprofit preferred.
