Visual Communications and Design Consultant

Responsible for working collaboratively with researchers and internal/external stakeholders to develop visual materials through an iterative design process that ensures clarity, accuracy, and alignment with project goals.Website & UI Design. Responsible for supporting additional design, communication, or digital needs that advance the mission of the research units served.DutiesDesign & Visual DevelopmentCreate graphics for research proposals, presentations, and communications materialsDesign infographics, diagrams, charts, posters, and other visual assetsDevelop wireframes, storyboards, mockups, and prototypes for visual projectsRefine existing graphics and presentations to improve clarity and visual impactCollaboration & IterationMeet with researchers and stakeholders to understand project goals and communication needsTranslate technical concepts into visual formats suitable for varied audiencesRevise designs through multiple feedback cycles until final approvalManage multiple concurrent design requests and deadlinesWebsite Design & MaintenanceDesign front-end website layouts and user interfacesUpdate and maintain website content and design elementsEnsure websites meet ADA, Section 508, and WCAG accessibility requirementsCoordinate with university departments for website approvals and technical complianceStandards & Asset ManagementApply university branding and design standards to all materialsMaintain organized design files, templates, and digital assetsFollow best practices for file management and project archivingSecurity & ComplianceHandle sensitive research information appropriatelyFollow university data protection and cybersecurity protocolsOther duties as assigned.ExpectationsAdapt quickly to proposal-driven deadlines and shifting prioritiesBalance workload equitably across supported unitsMeet agreed-upon deliverables and timelinesExercise sound judgment in the use of AI tools, ensuring quality, originality, and compliance with university standardsMaintain a high level of responsiveness and professionalism throughout iterative collaborationNOTEThis position is grant funded and contingent on continued grant funding.
