About the Role

We are looking for a talented Visual Communications Specialist to enhance public health publications that report critical scientific information related to disease prevention, health promotion, and education. Your role will involve designing and developing a variety of visual materials, including printed publications and online media.

This position is fully remote, supporting a federal government contract. Future transitions to an onsite role at our Atlanta, GA office may occur. Candidates must reside in the United States and will need to complete a federal background check and obtain NACI clearance for employment.

Responsibilities

Create and edit graphics, designing report layouts for both print and online formats. Produce high-quality, magazine-style publications utilizing industry-standard software. Review and proofread materials prepared by writers and designers. Incorporate health planning and communication concepts into your visual products. Implement best practices for information design and data visualization. Utilize publishing software to import text and graphics. Integrate text and images to create cohesive and appealing layouts. Make adjustments to text properties and revise layouts as needed. Submit final files for printing or online distribution. Collaborate effectively with designers, writers, and editors. Participate in regular meetings to discuss project statuses. Prepare graphics using tools like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Excel, and Acrobat. Establish templates and layouts for use by other graphic artists. Design graphics in alignment with Agency guidelines and style. Engage with staff regarding their graphic needs. Produce and edit digital photography, including scientific images. Ensure weekly publication layouts are prepared accurately and promptly. Review weekly layouts thoroughly. Ensure compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards in your work. Collaborate with internal stakeholders on emergency response reports (e.g., COVID, Zika, Ebola). Meet production deadlines and follow established standard operating procedures. Attend team meetings to stay aligned with project goals. Required Experience and Skills

Experience in visual arts methods and techniques for electronic media is essential. Previous work within a federal public health agency (e.g., CDC, NIH) is highly desired. Demonstrated expertise in multimedia, infographics, and print production. Ability to design visually appealing and readable pages. Strong collaboration and communication skills. Attention to detail and accuracy is crucial. Excellent organizational skills to manage tight deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Capability to obtain and maintain public trust clearance. Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Education and Training

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, fine arts, or related fields. Physical Requirements

Extended periods of sitting and working at a computer; may require lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally. Who We Are
