Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and creative Communications Specialist to support statewide public health initiatives through strategic communications, content development, and graphic design. This role is ideal for someone with excellent writing skills, a strong visual design background, and experience developing engaging content for diverse audiences.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create impactful communications across digital and print platforms while supporting community outreach and health education efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage content for websites, newsletters, social media, reports, and print materials.
Translate complex information into clear, engaging, and audience-friendly communications.
Design visually compelling materials using Canva and other graphic design tools.
Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to develop educational and promotional content.
Produce monthly email newsletters using My Emma or similar email marketing platforms.
Monitor communication performance metrics and prepare quarterly reports with recommendations.
Support communication campaigns, community outreach initiatives, and public awareness efforts.
Ensure communication materials meet ADA, WCAG, and Section 508 accessibility standards (training provided if needed).
Manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a collaborative remote/hybrid work environment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field (or equivalent professional portfolio).
2–5 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or content development.
Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
Proficiency with Canva and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
Experience with email marketing platforms such as My Emma, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar.
Experience creating newsletters, social media content, digital communications, and graphic materials.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Must currently reside in Tennessee.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in public health, healthcare, nonprofit, or government organizations.
Knowledge of digital accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA, Section 508).
Experience tracking communication metrics and campaign performance.
Understanding of culturally responsive communication strategies.

Work Environment

Hybrid work arrangement (Tennessee residents only).
Primarily remote with occasional in-person meetings in Nashville each quarter.
