The Web Designer and SEO Specialist position exists to design, build, and maintain high-quality digital experiences for one or more Focus on the Family content brand areas. Working closely with the assigned Marketing Manager, this role translates campaign goals, content priorities, and brand requirements into functional, responsive, and high-performing web pages and digital content experiences across the ministry’s WordPress environment. This role bridges creative design, technical execution, and search optimization. The Web Designer and SEO Specialist builds and maintains landing pages, publishes and formats digital content, improves search visibility, supports website performance, and helps ensure brand consistency, usability, and discoverability across digital properties. For multi-brand assignments, the Web Designer and SEO Specialist balances competing web requests and priorities to effectively support each brand’s publishing and campaign cadence.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Designs, builds, and maintains responsive landing pages and web content for assigned brand areas using WordPress and related tools, following best practices for usability, accessibility, and performance
Uses the organization’s shared design system/component library to ensure visual and functional consistency with the broader site
Implements pages and features that meet the organization’s performance budgets and Core Web Vitals standards
Ensures new pages/features are properly instrumented for tracking per the organization’s data-layer standards, in partnership with the other web developers and web designers and data/reporting team
Follows established technical SEO and AI-discoverability practices when building or updating content pages, partnering with the marketing team’s SEO/GEO specialists on content-level needs
Implements and manages experimentation on department-owned pages — A/B and multivariate testing on campaign pages, CTAs, conversion paths, and personalized experiences — using the organization’s designated testing/personalization platform to identify constituent needs, friction points, and opportunities to improve navigation, comprehension, engagement, conversion, and satisfaction
Sets up and manages multi-armed bandit (“king of the hill”) testing where appropriate, so better-performing treatments automatically receive an increasing share of traffic over time, up to becoming the default experience
Ensures every campaign, product page, and conversion path launches with a testing/optimization plan by default
Partners with Marketing Cloud Personalization lead to implement personalized experiences and ensure they are properly tested for performance
Monitors and reports test results and treatment performance for department-owned pages, feeding learnings into future builds
Participates in the organization’s link/page monitoring process; resolve flagged issues within [Department]’s pages promptly
Supports content and marketing teams with hands-on execution of landing pages, campaign pages, and product pages, including video-first content presentation
Brings department-specific priorities and technical needs into the Web Developer’s cross-team coordination process (sprint planning, RFCs)
Participates in code/technical reviews with cross team web developers to maintain architectural consistency across the matrixed team
Troubleshoots and resolves day-to-day technical issues on department-owned pages
Builds functional pages and templates from wireframes, mockups, or campaign requirements, ensuring alignment with brand standards and user experience expectations
Implements and maintains front-end web functionality, interactive features, and page components using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related web technologies
Supports content personalization, gated content access, and user authentication experiences where applicable
Conducts quality assurance through cross-browser, cross-device, and mobile testing, correcting issues directly or coordinating with appropriate technical stakeholders as needed
Optimizes landing pages, articles, and other digital content for search visibility and discoverability by applying current SEO and GEO best practices
Research keywords, search intent, metadata, headings, schema, and other on-page optimization elements to improve organic performance
Monitors search rankings, traffic trends, and content performance for assigned brand areas and recommends technical and content improvements
Improves website speed, functionality, and reliability through image optimization, performance enhancements, plugin management, and related web maintenance practices
Publishes and formats articles, reviews, and other digital content in WordPress, ensuring clean rendering and alignment with brand and editorial standards
Builds, configures, and maintains web forms and related integrations to support accurate data capture, lead flow, and campaign effectiveness
Research, tests, configures, and maintains plugins, tools, and web features that improve site functionality, reliability, and conversion performance
Maintains version control and development workflow practices appropriate to assigned web projects and updates
Provides subject matter expertise and administrative support for WordPress and related digital tools used by assigned brands
Creates and maintains documentation, training resources, and support materials for webpage development, content publishing, and troubleshooting procedures
Stays current with WordPress updates, SEO and GEO trends, security practices, accessibility standards, and relevant digital technologies, and provides recommendations to the assigned Brand Marketer and stakeholders as appropriate
Processes webpage redirects, creates QR codes, and completes other technical web support tasks needed for campaign and content execution
For assignments supporting multiple brands, balances and prioritizes competing web requests to support publishing schedules, campaign timing, and organizational priorities
WordPress Development:
Independently builds, configures, tests, deploys, and maintains WordPress pages, templates, components, and features supporting department campaigns, products, content, and initiatives.
Develops and customizes WordPress themes, templates, blocks, patterns, custom post types, taxonomies, and approved plugins using established organizational standards.
Uses the organization’s shared design system and approved WordPress components whenever appropriate, avoiding unnecessary duplication or department-specific solutions.
Translates approved designs, wireframes, and requirements into responsive, accessible, and maintainable WordPress experiences using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and established development patterns.
Configures page layouts, forms, media, metadata, redirects, and reusable content elements while preserving content quality, technical SEO, accessibility, and website performance.
Follows established source-control, code-review, testing, staging, release, documentation, and post-deployment validation processes.
Tests WordPress changes for functionality, responsive behavior, browser compatibility, accessibility, analytics, technical SEO, and regression issues before release.
Troubleshoots and resolves routine WordPress issues involving templates, content display, forms, plugins, browser behavior, performance, and department-owned pages.
Evaluates requested plugins and third-party scripts against established security, privacy, accessibility, performance, and maintainability standards, escalating approval decisions when required.
Follows established practices for WordPress core, theme, plugin, and dependency maintenance; coordinate significant updates or production risks with the Lead Web Developer and other technical teams.
Identifies gaps in existing components, templates, or development standards and propose reusable improvements to the Corporate Web Developer/UI/UX rather than creating isolated solutions.
Documents significant configurations, customizations, dependencies, and implementation decisions so work can be supported and maintained across the organization.
Supports content creators and marketing partners in the effective use of approved WordPress templates, components, and publishing practices.
Escalates architectural questions, security concerns, significant performance issues, and proposed exceptions to established standards to the Corporate Web Developer/ UI/UX

• Collaborates with editors, designers, marketers, content producers, and technical teams to ensure consistent execution across assigned brands
